Live Animals are a three-piece mixture of Reggae, Hip Hop, Ska, Punk and Surf that is always a crowd favorite. We recently moved back to Orange County California from New Jersey. My name is Russell I am the father figure of the group. I play guitar, do most of the singing and most importantly keep Paul and Abe out of trouble. I am 29 and was born and raised in Southern California. I started playing guitar to impress chicks and hang out with the surfer stoners that I thought were cool. My influences range from Pharcyde, Social D, to classic Reggae and of course Sublime.
Paul my twin brother is the Bass player, and he sings on a couple of songs. Paul is the wild one. Abe and myself have been put in charge of keeping an eye on Paul. Once in Mexico when I let him out of my sights he ran off with some bum, got beat up by a prostitute and got picked up by the cops. Yet managed to make it back to the hotel room before sun up. So what did I do?? Wrote a song about it.
Abe is our drummer. He was originally borne in Peru but came to the U.S. when he was in grade school. Abraham started playing drums early on, and has been in several bands, but in 1998 Abe met Paul while attending a class at Orange Coast College, and Live Animals was formed.
The rest is history we now have one full-length album, a six-song cd, and about a 40 song set list of original music. We have been playing bars and venues all over New Jersey and New York. We have also played all over California (mostly southern), as well as in Arizona, Chicago, Ohio and Mexico.
